MIDNIGHT IN PARIS (2011)

I found this film while surfing through RottenTomatoes, and I decided to try it out.
Midnight In Paris is a strange film. It has time travel, history, music, art, literature and loads of picturesque scenes and everything I'm absorbed in.

I am a self professed Offline Romantic. I spend much of not being online, and I still read books. I do not own a smartphone at this point of time, and I like it.

The story is of a young American Writer by the name of Gil who comes to Paris with his fiancee and her parents. Being terribly amused by the attitude they take towards Paris, he wanders off by himself in the streets at midnight, where he stumbles upon a waiting car, whose passengers urge him to get in.

Salvador Dali makes a entrance in the film
He is transported back to the 1920s, where he meets his literary influences such as the F Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.
F Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Fitzgerald. A film coming soon in 2012 would feature on Fitzgerald's well known, "The Great Gatsby"
Ernest Hemingway(clutching a bottle). I am ashamed to say I haven't read any of his books yet.

This film comes from the brains of Woody Allen, whose work is something I don't really watch. I thought of the dialogue and story twists in the show were kind of predictable to a formula, but this film used the literal and artistic giants of the 1920s to give viewers like me a reason to experience life as it is for them.

The opening of the film begins with people in Paris, straight off from a clip they show on new TV sets so you can compare the colors and contrasts of the different models. It was kind of weird to see it, and that kinda unscrewed my brains for a good 10 minutes.

Regrettably the scenes featuring 1920s Paris were a bit short for my taste, and I think he could show us more about life of common folk in Paris. We see parties, music, dancing, restaurants, but maybe they showed about the same monuments Paris is famous for back in the 1920s, that would be really something.

Overall it made me go back to reading my books and look at more art. Not everyone is able to watch and understand the film, especially when Gil comes out of the car and acts all over the top when he meets some people along the way.

Caution: Some prerequisite reading up on famous artists and authors are required. You don't need to read their books or study their art, just know who they are, what they did, that's all you need.
