THE PRESTIGE(2006)

It's magic, rivalry, history, science, murder, mystery, revenge all rolled into 1. Cut forth to our 2 leading men, Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, who play to rival magicians in the glory of the 19th century. With the tit-for-tat game they play between themselves, it's no wonder both parties would get injured, hurting other people...

This is arguably Jackman's best performance yet. He becomes serious and vengeful, and yet he gets to show off his theatrics, introducing and narrating the proceedings of his magic acts, disguising himself as a random audience member to infiltrate into Bale's shows, and takes on a double role as a habitual drinker his character hires to take on a disappearing act(the new transported man). Just solely playing Wolverine is a waste on him, and this show truly shows us what Jackman is really capable of, other than action, violent roles.

This is one of Christopher Nolan's less outstanding shows, but much better than the Hollywood fare we see nowadays(I still await the last installment of the dark knight). Feel free to show this to your friends who love tit-for-tat, for then will they understand the consequences of the actions. Nicholas Tesla's science theory comes into play, secret identities, ongoing competition, one-upmanship is thrown into the mix. One starts to wonder has the idea of collaborating ever occurred to them, given that both have their various strong and weak points. A classic example of the lose-lose situation, and many other people would go down that way too.

Overall, a movie with a talented cast, detailed background, sets and props, and a rather simple story. The happy ending here does not involve a woman and a man, but a father and his daughter. Go watch the show, but more importantly, are you watching closely?
