I used to fall asleep when a cooking show came on. Is it because the food was awful, the hosts were dry or the food didn't look nice, I didn't know.(Come to think about it, I pretty much paid attention to the details, so it's probably the last option.)
Julie and Julia is a cooking, by-women-for-women show. Talks about 2 women, Julia Child(Meryl Streep) and Julie Powell(Amy Adams) and how they face similar challenges throughout their quest for success. Well, they do cook, but that isn't the whole point here. Also I would have fallen asleep if they really cooked for 2 hours straight.
It's cheerful and relaxed, no earth-stopping climax or villain cometh, and pretty easy for us viewers to go through, like their ups and downs, dealing with unwelcome criticism, making choices.. There's no villain to fight or defeat, just plodding along life would make a pretty good story it is.
It has also struck me how tall Julia Child is. She stood at 185cm, which is essentially much taller than most of the population, whereas Streep is only 168cm, which is not very tall. I stand at 160 myself. I always wondered how they made her look taller. I only heard of cameras making people look short, so that's why all those actors and all are all so tall, but making them look tall is a totally different story.
Anyway, that's all for this time. Looking forward to watching 50/50 at last. Opens in Singapore at last, in the full glory of Joseph Gordon Levitt. I hope Premium Rush isn't going to take that long. Or the Dark Knight Rises. That I don't mind.
