Darmstadt-8

Willkommen in Deutschkurs

First day of German lessons. Some reorganization required. It feels like being inside German 101 again, just that my teacher isn't Frau Tanja or 102, where my teacher is Frau Vivien.

I have stumbled upon the professional territory. Rapid German flies left and right like bullets, and I am caught in crossfire. It's like being in battle without the shield but the bullets hurt no one.

These people have been learning German for years in school and all I had is a year of lessons. In Poly. German is a second sword to them. It's a stumbling block for me. Years of Chinese have turned my intonation sweet and smooth, just like a native speaker, but German is a harsh language on my tongue. I never remembered straining so badly just to pronounce the words.

Mandrin can make anyone sound nice and polite. Even if they're shouting at one another. German is an entirely different world altogether. Something like moving to the sea after for staying years in the mountains. Well, it's true the other way round.

I have lived near the sea(Singapore is a island, a small one at that) for my life so far, and now I need to move to the hills where the sea is miles away.

Something like being a fish out of water. Well, I am the fish. Even my surname means water. There's nothing I can change about that.

Oh well.
